Today, Tuesday, the Official Veterinary Services (SVO) of the Government of Catalonia reported the detection of two new outbreaks in wild boar. A total of seven cases of dead wild boar were found, one of which was located in the municipality of Sant Feliu de Llobregat, which has now been added to the high-risk zone.
This brings the total number of reported outbreaks to 31 to date, 3 of them primary and 28 secondary, including a total of 162 positive cases/wild boars in seven municipalities: Cerdanyola del Vallès, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Sant Quirze del Vallès, Terrassa, Rubí, Molins de Rei, and Sant Feliu de Llobregat.

In addition, 1,112 other cases have been analyzed and tested negative. Of these, 661 correspond to captured animals, and 451 were investigated through passive surveillance (whole carcasses or remains found in the wild, or animals with symptoms that were killed) in the infected area and its surroundings. The virus remains within the area that was fenced to prevent the disease from spreading outside. In the specific case of the municipality of Sant Feliu de Llobregat, this fence consists of a double enclosure installed along the A2 motorway and the AVE high-speed rail line.

New zoning
Work is underway with the European Commission to reclassify the current infected area into Zones I and II of Annex I of Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2023/594 of 16 March 2023, which establishes special control measures for African swine fever, which will be formalized through the submission to the Commission of the ASF control and eradication program in Spain.
This new zoning will be put to a vote at the next Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (PAFF Committee), which will take place on February 19-20 in Brussels.
This zoning will allow the movement of domestic pigs and wild boars and their products from these zones I and II, complying with strict biosecurity and surveillance measures that guarantee their complete safety in accordance with the provisions of the aforementioned Regulation.
